Hanoi is a small, charming city built around a pretty little lake with a temple on it, the serene Hoan Kiem. In the mornings the locals come here to do their graceful Tai Chi. At twilight, they stroll and jog around it before turning in for an early night. Hanoi has a far more gracious pace than Saigon’s, and is simply one of the most sedate and beautiful old cities in Asia.

Hanoï est une ville charmante et peu étendue qui s’organise autour du paisible Hoan Kiem, un joli petit lac avec un temple au milieu. Le matin, les habitants s’y rendent pour pratiquer, avec une grâce exquise, leurs exercices de Tai Chi. Au crépuscule, ils se promènent ou font du footing sur les berges avant de rentrer se coucher tôt. Le rythme de vie ici est bien plus harmonieux qu’à Saïgon. Hanoï est tout simplement, parmi les vieilles villes d’Asie, une des plus sereines et des plus belles.
