That sand layer lay immediately above the buried ground and below the tidal mud, thus it was inferred that the tsunami had occurred during or immediately after the seismic subsidence. Later on, sedimentary evidence of a relatively recent tsunami was found along the Pacific Coast of Canada. The authors described two marshes in the Island of Vancouver; the marshes were buried, covered by sand and with marine foraminifera and fossil plants.
